ABOUT RUMMY CARD GAME
Rummy is a two-six-player game in which has been said to have originated from the game mah-jongg and started off as an Indian card game back in history. Over many hundreds of years, this game was adopted by many other countries and became the most popular in America. Rummy comes in many variations, and the term Rummy itself is mostly used to describe the entire family of these variations. A more technical term for the basic Rummy is Sai Rummy.
In basic rules for Rummy, the best way to play it is with two players. Up to six can partake in the same game, but it is recommended to stick with two players as it is easier to maintain a proper game this way. A standard fifty-two card deck is used in the game of Rummy, with the cards ranking from lowest to highest in the following order:

When beginning the game, a dealer is chosen at random. Whichever way you decide on how to pick the first dealer is fair. If there are only two players, the position of the dealer alternates with each hand. If there are more than two players, the dealer’s position rotates clockwise, beginning with the first dealer in which was chosen randomly.
In a two-player game, each player receives ten cards with each deal. In a three or four-player game, each player only gets dealt a hand of seven cards with every deal, and, in a five or six-player game, only six cards are distributed to the players. Once each player receives all of their cards, the next card in the deck is placed face up between the players to begin the discard pile. The remaining cards are placed face down between the players to form the stockpile. At this point, each player begins to sort out their cards.
The object of the game of basic Rummy is to get rid of all of the cards in your hand, and this can be done in one of three ways—melding, laying off, or discarding. Melding is when you combine your cards into runs (sequences) or sets (groups or books).
A run is a set of three or more cards in the same suit in consecutive order. For example, if you have a six, a seven, and an eight all in the club’s suit, then you have a run. A set is when you have three or four of the same numbers in different suits. For example, a four of hearts, a four of diamonds, and a four of spades is a set. If you choose to meld, you must organize the cards in which you can combine, and set them to face up in front of you. They will remain here until the game is finished.
Laying off is one of the easiest ways to get rid of cards in your hand. When laying off, you take a card, or cards, from your hand and add them to an existing meld on the table. You can only do this if the card you are about to use is an add-on to a set or a run already created.
You are not allowed to rearrange any melds in order to lay down your card. For example, if there is a set of three sevens on the table, you may add another seven. If you have a six, and there are four sevens as a set and an eight, nine, and ten as a run, you may not move one of the sevens from the set over to the run so you can lay down your six.
Discarding is a slow, but extremely easy, way to dispose of your cards. When discarding, you place a card face-up on the discard pile, choosing wisely, of course, on which card to discard. You must discard a card each turn, no matter if you have already welded or laid off. However, it is not permitted to discard more than one card per turn.
Rummy comes in many different variations, all of which come with their own modified sets of rules. All of these variations, however, follow the guidelines of basic Rummy. If you know how to play the basic Rummy card game, you can just about nail any other variation.
